X-Box 360 vs. PS 3 vs. Wii

So what's the consensus here? I've got X-Box 360 and Wii and I've seen and read quite a bit about PS 3. I think it is safe to state that the Wii is a completely different class of video game system than the X-Box and the playstation, but that does not mean that it is a bad system. I truly enjoy my Wii and look forward to getting more games for it. I play the X-Box more often, mostly because I like to play online against others. Online play with the X-Box is a lot of fun and very easy to set up. I can't really give my opinion on the PS 3 snce I do not own one, but from what I've read and seen, I think they are finally making progress after a seemingly rocky start. So all in all, I think each system has some unique features that may set it above another system. I think in the end, if you are having trouble deciding, it comes down to the types of games you like to play. Although they share many titles, there are distinct differences in the games that are exclusive to individual systems and it is each users individual preference that will dictate which system is the best fit. What does everyone else think? What are some experiences that others have had with these system?

RE: X-Box 360 vs. PS 3 vs. Wii

The Wii is the most innovative console system ever to be released. Nintendo is on par with Apple as far as innovation is concerned. It's also the cheapest console system to ever be released (relative to the times) and is out selling X-Box 360 and PS3. Though in all fairness, the X-Box has been out for a lot longer and has sold more units in total. This system, believe it or not, is targeted not only at gamers, but non-gamers as well. All in all it's a very fresh and welcome change to the console industry. I love it and can't wait to see what the future brings.

The XBox 360 I don't own, but I'm starting to wish I did. Let me let you in on a little Microsoft secret. When ever they release a product, it's usually mediocre at best, e.g., zune, xbox, xbox 360, Windows (take your pick),... But their second acts are great. The 360 is entering it's second act. The games look fantastic, online play is flawless, the add on HD DVD drive is worth the price of admission alone. Since the Xbox 360 is really just a computer, it is compatible with people playing online from there PC's. HUXLEY!!! = MMOFPS. Planetside meets World of Warcraft. Sa weeeet.

PS3 = the suck. Sony is spreading themselves way too thin. They may eventually bounce back, but right now they need to focus on one thing, not 2000 things. They had a considerable lead in the HD / Blueray war but they screwed that up. Just like they did with beta-max, minidisc, and PSP dvd. I'm sure it's a fantastic system, but come on.

XBOX 360 and Wii for the win Smile

RE: X-Box 360 vs. PS 3 vs. Wii

PS3 is disgustingly over-priced. I don't know much about video game consoles, and what really makes one better than the other (but isn't it all really opinion anyway?), but I know that a system like the Wii is amazing and costs much much less, and the 360 offers online gaming and awesome games for still a much lower cost than the PS3. I'm not a "gamer," so I have a hard time understanding why one would pay 6 or 700 bucks for a game system. AND not only do you have to buy the console and games, but you have to buy all sorts of other accessories in order to even get started playing, as far as I understand. The gaming industry in general is eating up so much of our money when they don't even have to charge as much as they do. Don't get me wrong, I don't think there's anything wrong with purchasing video games and accessories, I just think there are cheaper options than the PS3 that are just as high quality and fun. Don't anyone hate me for this, but there are probably better things to spend our money on anyway...

RE: X-Box 360 vs. PS 3 vs. Wii

It's difficult for me as well to comment on all of the Big 3 that are out there today (referring to Wii, XBox360, and PS3). I will say, in favor of XBox, I am a huge fan of the profile system and the cordless controllers. I have not yet been able to utilize online play, but I have seen it at work, and it seems to be a great community. Being involved in the design industry, and this may be a personal taste issue, I find (and have found since N64) Nintendo's graphics to be far too cartoony. I know I'm playing a video game, and that it's not real life, but I tend to appreciate attention to making an image represent in some way the world in which we live. I love what Wii has done with the interactive controller system (very very much so), but don't make me play in a Candy Land atmosphere.

RE: X-Box 360 vs. PS 3 vs. Wii

I think that candy land atmosphere is found only to an extent (e.g., nintendo's games). However, if you vnture to some of the games that cross over from one system to the other such as call of duty, marvel, etc. the cartoony aspect dissappears and you are left with an interactive version of a great game. Pirates of the Carribean for Wii looks amazing. I don't know how many times I've wanted to take part in a sword fight after watching one of the movies, but now it can happen. I personally love all three systems and am only saddened by the fact that I don't have much time to play right now. Each system brings something unique to gaming which makes it that much harder to pick a favorite. Wii, again, is very interactive, and i think as time goes on, there will be many, non candy land atmosphere games that will feature Wii's interactive capabilities. X-Box 360 does have a great online community, many in game achievements to unlock that are depicted in your online profile. PS3, my newest, and probably least played, has free online play and has amazing future potential in their online community. After all this talk about video games, I think I need to take a sick day so that I can spend some quality time playing.

Ah yes, I understand completely. I think there need to be two of me. An unconscious self, who goes to work everyday and brings home a paycheck, of which there is no knowledge or recollection of the day's endeavors at work. There as well needs to be a me, of which the entity of myself is much more conscious, who stays home and plays video games. Basically, I need to watch Multiplicity again, and figure out how it all works.

RE: X-Box 360 vs. PS 3 vs. Wii

Now being a proud owner of all three systems and having more than one game for each of them, I'd have to sya I'm equally impressed with all of them. I know the die hard fans of each system will want to shoot me but I can't pledge my allegiance to any one system. I love the interactivity of Wii. Just this morning I loaded up the news channel and was able to view current news topics by picking a location on a globe. Very cool!!! Wii is also coming out with games that move it away from the candyland atmosphere mentioned above. X-Box 360 is great too. I have a number of friends in the online community, although we don't all play the same games. It is a versatile and user friendly system. The PS3's online community has definitely improved. I've been enjoying playing COD 4 online and am looking forward to trying other online games soon. The six axis 3 controller now has the dual shock capabilities and will be released soon. I got one early, special ordered from Hong Kong. The PS3 is also a beast in terms of power. It is not only a gaming console but an entire home entertainment system. I love em all.
